As some of you know, I’ll be moving to the middle of nowhere within a year or so. One problem is that I own a 2016 Jetta Sport and the nearest Volkswagen dealer is going to be about an hour and a half away from where I’ll be moving to.
I’ll be buying a truck shortly after my move, but I intend to keep the Jetta as my daily driver. But, my question is, would it it really be worth driving over an hour just go get an under warranty oil change?

Yes. Warranty all the things.

Do it all yourself? Oil changes shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

I could, then on the other hand warranty and free.
But also other shit that I’d have to visit the dealer for...

Will a gun rack fit in the Jetta?
Just kidding. Why not just get rid of it and run the truck?

Bwahaha,
I kinda want to keep something somewhat sporty and fun to drive. Plus my addiction to VAG products hasn't gone away.

Buy truck, sell Jetta and buy a TT to mob around in.

Combine oil change with other errands in the same city, that’s what I do and my preferred dealer is just under an hour away. [The nearest dealer is about half an hour away but their service staff lost my business the first time I inquired about something.] The oil change interval is long enough (15000km for me, 10k mi for you(?)) that it’s not really onerous.
That said, I’ve lived rurally for most of my life and most errands are a half hour run anyway so I’m used to it, your experience may vary.

That’s true. The main city I’d go to wouldn’t be the one with the dealer, but I’d probably be able to anyways.
You've got the gen 3 1.8t in your Golf right?

I can't handle the gas mileage. With how cautious I am with the throttle, I deserve at least 20 MPG.

What kinda mileage have you been getting?
I've been getting 40 highway for a week now, I'm pretty impressed by what they've done with it.

Yeah but one and a half hours both ways. Gasoline cost?
Of course if something blows up you’d have to take it all the way.

I average about 38mpg, best I’ve done is a hair over 40 on a tank. I’m very impressed with it, especially considering that it’s got a good bit of torque on tap.

Pretty good!
Have you done anything to yours power wise? It may just be me, but I think these cars could do with an extra 40 horsepower or so.

Oh god no. Please don’t do that to yourself. I’ve seen what it’ll do to a man. It’s never good when a friend walks up to you and says “Hey is there a possibility of you being able to flat tow me home?”
Yes he has a B5 S4 wagon. Yes it runs. Until it doesn’t. Car was fixed. Coil pack was the problem. It was a few hundred for one coil pack.
Edit. Well it looks like they’re a little cheaper. He said a few hundred. That’s all I know.

Luckily for me, my previous car was a six speed A6 with the 2.7t. Exactly the same as a B5 S4, except different suspension and heavier. And I fucking loved it.

Not yet. Totally agreed that these cars could do with a bit more power though.
There is a concern about the stock clutch being a bit weak. Apparently even stage 1 tunes can be enough to get slip. I believe APR’s tune for these gets up to 230hp/250lb.ft which is a big jump.
I feel like ~200hp/~210-220lb.ft would be a good sweet spot for the car and would not be pushing limit on the clutch too much, hopefully. I’m hoping Cobb comes out with an accessport for this car/engine that would allow a mild tune. Alternatively, Neuspeed has the power module that gets around the number I’m looking for and is a bit cheaper than a tune to boot.

We’re on the exact page, hahaha.
I heard that about the APR tunes also. Bugeyedbeetle told me that the 87 octane tune would be easier on the clutch than the 93 one, so that’s a possibility. I’d rather play it safe though, especially while under warranty. I’m not a huge fan of the stock clutch, too light and vague for me so when and if an upgraded one comes out, I’ll be on it.
I’ve been thinking about that Neuspeed module ever since I bought the car. Not too many people seem to have them, but I’d like to give one a shot. They also don’t leave traces on the Ecu and can easily be removed which is another big plus.
I'd also like to see a bigger turbo come out, maybe a k04 but who knows.

I’d honestly still go for the Neuspeed one since they’re a tad more well known and have been making power modules since like 2003 or something.
